Slate Stone
Slate is a frequently preferred material for retaining walls due to its durability and natural appearance.
General steps of slate stone application in retaining wall construction:
- Planning and Design: A design should be made depending on factors such as the retaining wall height, slope and soil condition. Engineering calculations and design principles should be considered.
- Site Preparation: The area where the retaining wall will be built should be prepared. If necessary, soil excavations should be made and smoothing operations should be carried out.
- Foundation Construction: A solid foundation must be built under the retaining wall. The foundation should be designed to carry the load of the wall and prevent the soil from slipping.
- Stone Selection and Preparation: Slate stones should be selected and prepared so that they are placed steadily along the wall. Large stones are usually used in the foundation, while smaller stones are used on the surface of the wall.
- Stone Placement: Slate stones are properly placed on the foundation and surface of the retaining wall. The stability of the retaining wall is increased by adding soil filling between the stones.
- Adding Embankments: Earth fillings placed between the stones help to balance the pressure behind the wall. Fill layers are properly compacted.
- Drainage Operations: A drainage system should be established behind the retaining wall. This prevents rainwater from accumulating and weakening the wall.
- Surface Arrangement: The surface of the retaining wall is smoothed and the desired appearance is obtained.
- Protective Measures: By adding vegetation around the retaining wall, soil erosion and an aesthetic appearance can be achieved.
